The
SCRSS Library, established in 1924, is a collection of over 35,000
books, journals and pamphlets covering Russia and the former Soviet
Union. It comprises material in both English and Russian language,
primarily from Soviet publishers.
Key
subject areas within the collection are art and architecture,
music, theatre and cinema, literature, history and politics, education,
science, and Russian language learning.
The
collection is significant for its uninterrupted coverage of the
Soviet period (1917-91) and includes some rare materials from
the 1920s-40s, as well as a number of personal collections. It
is an important resource for academic researchers (undergraduates
and postgraduates), but also caters for those with a general interest
in Russia.
